The inescapable connection between a family and the coastal landscape is the theme of A Love of the Sea for Me and My Three. That connection is one Yuki Northington wants her children to appreciate as she endeavors to share her love of the Gulf waters with them.
“The big secret is that 1 hid the initials of my children in this piece, thinking that if it was chosen and cast into a plaque to be on the bridge forever, that my children and grandchildren can come to the bridge. They can do a rubbing and remember how much they mean to me. Although many bad things happened because of 1 lurricane Katrina, 1 believe that we all need to focus on the good. The beautiful Bay of St. Louis Bridge is one of them.”
The inspiration for Jelly, came from Yuki’s many trips out to Cat Island.
“Our best days as a family are spent out on our boat. Part of the fun is never knowing what we will see each time we go out.”
Yuki considers her family to be very fortunate to live by the beach to enjoy the water and the abundant sea life. “1 chose the jellyfish because it was a step away from the iconic shrimp, oysters and crab that we see so often.”
