an ad for the Gainesville Hotel. There were at least two other hotels and boarding houses in Gainesville at that time. The ad for the Gainesville Hotel was as follows;
“The proprietor having built an addition to his house is now prepared to receive Boarders and accomodate Travelers and all those who may be pleased to give him a call. His table will always be furnished with the best the market affords. His stables will be well supplied with provender and he flatters himself that by strict attention to the wants of his friends and the traveling community, to merit a liberal share of public patronage. The terms of the Hotel are as follows, to-wit
Board per month--$9.00, Single feed for horse-.25, Board and lodging, per month--$12.00, Man and horse, per day~$1.50, Board and lodging, per day--$1.10, Man and horse, per night--$1.25, Single Meal, each-.25, Keeping horse, per month--$12.00, Keeping horse, per day--.50.
Boarding for a less period than one month will be charged by the day.
All boarding to be paid in advance, if required by the proprietor.
In addition to the above, the proprietor has opened a COFFEE HOUSE at the comor of Centre and Water Streets, where he will keep a general assortment of Spirituous and Vineous Liquors, at which establishment he hopes to share a
liveral patronage. Gainesville, Aug. 1, 1845.
In this old paper an announcement was made of the opening of the Gainesville Exchange: “The undersigned respectfully, inform the citizens of Gainesville, Mississippi and its vicinity, also the public in general that he has opened a Coffee House on the corner or Centre and Water Streets, where he will keep a general supply of Vineous and Spirituous Liquors. He is also preparing to open a Billiard Room, attached to the same. He will, in the meantime, be prepared to open a House of Entertainment, in a few weeks, for the accomodation of all gentlemen and ladies who may favor him with their patronage.
