It is important to Terry Blake Edwards that she live in a place where you can see the moon and the sun at the same time. Originally from Long Beach and now living in Pass Christian, Terry has spent her lifetime doing just that. Many generations of her family have obviously felt the same way.
Terry received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in drawing and painting from the University of Southern Mississippi and was named the “Outstanding Art Student” her senior year. Terry won the Walter Anderson Memorial Award in 1990. Her work was selected by the Mississippi Museum of Art for inclusion in the Mississippi Artists Collection and she has had work exhibited at the American Embassy in Barbados for two years.
Terry works in many mediums interpreting Gulf Coast landscapes, wildlife and trees in bold designs and colors, including a series of wildflower paintings to which she is continually adding.
Working at her Fern Gully Studio, Terry is surrounded by all the natural beauty that has been her greatest influence. Ancient oaks, a bay head swamp carpeted in ferns and draped in vines, and a big sky in which to observe sometimes dramatic coastal weather are right outside her window.
Working primarily with watercolor crayons, Terry paints on highly-textured surfaces. Her stylized Magnolia breathes new life into a flower that has long been the subject of southern art. “Painting a magnolia is considered taboo for serious artists. I wanted to make it fresh.”
