SCHOOL DATS—-These were students of the first Cxtahouia School, built for the children of three families aboot 1902. It consisted of one room no desks for the students, and with the three R’s and some geography and history being taught. Standing (L to R) are Corine Stockstill Welsh now of Carriere; Ralph Parker, deceased; Hugo Smith, deceased; Willie Pearson now of Carriere; Robert Pearson, now of Perkinston; Harris Parker, deceased; (seated) Mittie Pearson Baxter of Picayune; Beadie Smith of Jackson; Maggie Pearson Vickery of Biloxi; Maude Parker, Picayune; Aileen Stockstill Haas of Kiln; Hubert Pearson, Houston; and the teacher, Mrs. Eula Edwards. “WE WERE THREE teachers in this Bayou Talla School, and I taught here three sessions”, remarked Mrs. Jeanne D.
