INTRODUCTION On October 25 and 26, 1 979, New World Research, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of a 30 acre tract in Lot 84 of the Port Bienville Industrial Park, Hancock County, Mississippi (Figure 1). The work was carried out under contract with Borg Warner Chemical Corporation which has optioned the property for construction of a petrochemical plant. The survey was undertaken by New World Research, Inc. archaeo logists. Dr. Prentice M. Thomas, Jr. and Mark T. Swanson. Representing Borg Warner Chemical Corporation, Mr. Dennis Bolton visited the project area during the course of the survey. The following report, portions of which were contributed by Mark T. Swanson, L. Janice Campbell, and Dr. Prentice M. Thomas, J presents a detailed discussion of the project goals, field methods, and results in addition to pertinent information on the area environment, previous archaeological work, and culture history. Conclusions and recommendations for further work are included in the final chapters.
