OUR CITY	"-----
SUMMER RETREATS -- Sr-A SIDE RESORTS BSY ST. LOUIS
’■•’e can take any of the boats that leave daily the wharf at the end of the railroad and shortly after partaking of a splendid dinner on bo^rd find ourselves =>t the whar^ of the venerable Bay St. Touis, which long ere this great city was founded or thought o'r -- when Chartres, Royal and Canal Streets were the undisturbed hone of the frog, the alligator rnd the snake --vas a respectable shinning town of Old'France, whence boats departed for the French settlements on the Upper Mississippi, passim? through Takes Maurepn? and Manchack.
If is now a great summer resort o^ ,our citizens, who have many little coftages here, protected and overshadowed by ^ine old oaks. A very pleasant residence it is, indeed, for fa^^ies with good bathing, abundance o^ fish and fruit, and o^ very convenient distance from the city for business reo^le who cannot be avay long.
There is a very comfortable Hotel at the 'Bay, kept by a courteous and agreeable gentleman"! wh"7 sna”res no trouble to render his visitors comfortable.
