7, a Vietnamese Worship Service time was held by Pastors Tho Ngoc Dang and Long Le. We closed the year with two musicals. "The City of Light" was presented by the Sanctuary Choir and the Children's Choir presented the Christmas Musical entitled "The Don?t Be Afraid Brigade."
The year 1994 was begun with a budget of $218,000. Two groups started the new year off right by going on Mission trips to Panama. Dottie and James Gilbert, Carl Gipson, Jack Hode, and David Ratcliff went from January 7-27 and James Fillingame went January 7-17. During this month 31 volunteers agreed to serve in the Outreach Ministry of ?G.R.O.W.T.H.? visitation.
January 30 was ?Super Bowl? Sunday for football fans. Each year it means an oversized bowl is used for a special offering for various ministries of our church. This year it was set aside for the International Center for Seamen and Truckers in Gulfport, Mississippi.
During March the church voted to borrow $8,000 from Hancock Bank for installing a heat pump and several other improvements in the Missionary Home in Waveland. Brother Jerry Arrowood asked the church to contribute to the Henry Stafford Benefit Fund in Pontotoc, Mississippi. The church responded with a donation of $700 dollars as the youth battled brain cancer.
In April, Dr. Ed Deuschle went on a mission trip to the Faith Baptist Church in Anchorage, Alaska. Mike Davis, Minister of Music in Dawes, Alabama, went as music evangelist. This was part of Mississippi/Alaska Partnership and Sumultaneous Revivals held April 10-17. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goal for our church was $1,750.
May 1 was ?Eliza Young Day? at our church. She had retired at the end of January after 40 years of service as building custodian and nursery attendant. The evening worship service was dedicated to honor Eliza for her love and faithfulness to our church. Along with many gifts from others, Eliza was given an oak rocker by First Baptist Church so she would remember all of the many children whom she had rocked during the past 40 years.
The Gulf Coast Baptist Association includes 63 churches and missions working together under Dr. Bobby Perry. Six percent of each dollar we give goes to support missions in the Association. This year we contributed $8,234.36
