THOMAS ? MITCHELL LUC * Thomas ? Mitchell Luc ( was one of the orphans brought to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi by the Sister of Charity (N.Y. Foundling Home). His to-be father, Victor Luc and wife Katie Damborino Luc *** had no children and they wanted to adopt. Mrs. Luc's brother, Alex Damborino was also adopting a boy from the same train. As happens so many times, after the Lucs adopted Tom, they had children of their own - 8 in fact. Tom was well along in his teens before he suspected he was adopted. He was never told that he was adopted. His oldest sister says that she knew it because she heard her mother "talking to that man about it'.'- probably an "agent" for the Sisters checking on adoptees. Tom had little reason to doubt-he and his brother, Laurence, looked alike. He was treated like all the other children and they never think of him as "adopted". As a matter of fact, only his parents and their kin know for sure that he was not a natural son. Tom's uncle, Forest Luc, taught him to play baseball - the family's favorite sport (softball for the girls). He attended elementary school behind the Catholic University (prep school) - Ripps. After grade school he went to work at LeBlanc Grocery Store and learned to be a butcher. He "ran" the butcher ship in several stores in Bay St. Louis and moved on to New Orleans where he died. He first married Catherine Pagano and they had two children: Jackie and Jeanet. He later married Marie Carver Necaise and they had one child: Carolyn. * Garden of Memories; BSL, Ms., **Cedar Rest Cemetery, S10-9 (1885-193*0 ***" " " SlO-lOa; 1-12-1890; 1-13-1979 **** Mrs. Girard (Florence) Freeman (Harry Ward whose mother was a Luc has the family tree of the Luc family) Interviewed by Meg Hilliker for Hancock County Historical Society, September 1989.
