Waveland once summer retreat; now full-time community
The City of Waveland was once described by a 19th Century railroad travel writer as being a "great circle of friends." Originally part of Shieldsborough (now Bay St. Louis i. the city receive it<-<>wn charter :n 1 >*'■>'. under which it operates today.
Waveland has long been an established summer retreat and resort for visitors from New Orleans and Natchez. The permanent population came from the descendants of the original French and Spanish explorers.
Today, the city feels the
strength of growth and community development. New businesses are opening and economic and community developers are seeing an increase of interest and ittr ■. *' •. •	?>.-
The current population of 5,369 is expected to increase as industries and agencies such as NASA, Naval Oceanographic offices, the Navy SEALS, GE Plastics, Wellman, Bay Tech, and Con-Tech expand and locate.

School.
