It was in that year that General Ferdinand Claiborne, with concern about the Creek War, secured the cooperation and neutrality of the Choctaws by enlisting the help of General George Nixon, George Gaines, John Pitchlyn,xhl and Simon Favre, of Hancock County. Several secondary sources provide facts and lore about Simon Favre. He is said to have been the interpreter between Andrew Jackson and General Hinds and the Indian chief Pushmataha. He was reputed to be a personal friend of the chief, and legend has it that he married one of the chiefs daughters. (Heitzman :16). Favre?s Indian wife was Pistiklokonay, by whom he had four children: Mary, Louis, Edward and Celeste. (Heitzman) Major Thomas Hinds came to New Orleans to assist Andrew Jackson. Hinds was Commander of the regular Mississippi Dragoons. It was he who wanted to pursue the fleeing British army but Jackson refused.
Pushmataha also represented the Choctaws at an 1820 conference leading to Treaty of Doak?s Stand. There was another daughter of Simon Favre by the union with Pushmatah?s daughter. This was Mary Favre whose land claim was located between that of Ambrose Gaines to the north and Simon Favre to the South (Figure) (Marco: please recall that one Mary Favre, in her will, seemed to have only a claim in Mobile, inherited from her father. She was also named executor of Simon?s will and said that Benjamin Sones, a very' prominent official, was ?an old friend.?? In our treatment of Mary Favre in Version 917, we even have two different years of death for Mary, indicating -1 guess - two different people. I wonder if some mention of all this isn?t in order.)
