s VICKI LEVER HANOMAOE PAPER PAPER MAKER -MIXED MEDIA/COLLAGE A self taught paper maker, VICKI LEVER, uses her background in clay, fibers and photography to develop a true mixed media effect. LEVER has combined techniques of all three disciplines into unique assemblages. Often building on a foundation of handmade paper, the collage process combines elements such as photographs hand colored by the artist and found objects. She also creates collage commissions for individuals using personal memorabilia. In addition to working in her studio, she travels throughout the country showing her work, lecturing and conducting workshops. She is also the author of "Practical Paper Making", a series of instructional videos on the process of handmade paper. In 1986 VICKI LEVER was one of four Mississippi artists to receive an individual artist's grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission and was also awarded a scholarship to attend Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, TN. In 1987 LEVER studied Oriental paper making in Japan at the Fuji Paper Mills under a seventh generation master. VICKI has shown her work in New Orleans at the Jazz and Heritage Festival since 1985, cited in 1988 in "Gambit" magazine as one of the "Best of the Fest". LEVER's most current recognition came as "Best of Show" 1992 Jubilee Jam Art and Music Festival, Jackson, Mississippi.
