Now that the election is over, Lampley is eager to get started.
The Inauguration will be held next Thursday and July 8 is her first council meeting.
“I know it's going to be a lot of work,” she said of her job as a city council member. “But, it’s something I wanted and something I worked hard for. I’m eager to get started.”
Lampley sees part of her function on the council to act as a mouthpiece for the people she represents.
“My role is to hear the concerns of the people,” she explained. “They chose me to go to the council and bring (the council) the problems of Ward 3 and make changes.”
During her campaigning, one of the biggest concerns of her constituents was the drug problem m the area.
Lampley said that while she can voice the concern, it will take the help of residents to make a difference in the battle against drugs.
“(I can) take the input of the residents in the ward, but they are going to have to want to see it changed,” she explained. “The residents have to get involved, I can t do it (alone), and the police can only do so much.”
Although those sentiments may be shared by others, the ' new council member hopes she may be able to come up with ideas which will bring about solutions.
“People have different ideas ab jut doing things. If one isn’t working, try something else,” Lampley said. “Maybe my ideas can bring about a change.”
