KILLED IN ACTION /
PFC. EUGENE BERMOND
Our community was shocked and grieved when the news reached here on Tuesday afternoon that Pfc. Eugene Bermond, Army, had been killed in action. He is one of the fi-ve sons of Mr. and Mrs. Rene Bermond of this city all of whom are in the service with the exception of Rene Richard Bermond, Jr., who after two years of service was given a medical discharge.
Pfc Bermond entered the service on July 14, 1943, trained at Camp Hann and was in Belgium. He received a shoulder wound on January 20 of this year but had gone back in combat when he was killed. He had sent the Purpole Heart to his mother which she had received only the day before the message came of his death.
. It is such news as this that brings the war home to all of us and should give us new courage to go forward with the work on the Home Front in order to feel that we are doing some small thing that we may merit the sacrifice this fine boy has made.
Words are inadequate to express to his family the deep sympathy felt in Bay St. Louis, where Eugene was born and lived his short life.
May they be consoled in the fact that he died the death of *a Hero, giving his life so that others might live.
