Last Saturday night (April 1, 1876) Hogue, a prisoner in jail at Fississippi City, having procured an old tutcher knife converted it into a saw and cut his way out into the "bullring." VJhen discovered, he was trying to open the last door with a bar of iron.
Nr. Vm. Nurphy, our efficient jailor, happened to be absent at the time but his mother, being restless and unable to sleep and hearing the noise, aroused the Sheriff who vas sleeping in the same building in time to orevent the escaoe.
Jeff (Ramsey), as our oopular Sheriff is familiarly termed, providing himself v/ith a shot gun, sat quiet down before the door to avait- the result but Hogue, finding himself discovered, abandoned the attempt and cried like a child over his discomfEzfiture.
