FOR RELEASE:IMMHDiate BOR Announces Public Information Meetings on the Bartram Trail Study in the Eight Southeastern States The Bureau of Outdoor Recreation announced today that a public information meeting will be held in Gulfport on December 8 beginning at 7:00 p.m. to inform members of the public about the Bartram Trail Study which is currently being done in Mississippi. The meeting will be held at the Mississippi Power Company Auditorium, 2992 West Beach. At least one public information meeting will be held in each of the States of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Robert M. Baker, Regional Director of the Bureau's Southeast Region has said that these initial meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend. It is hoped that all individuals and organizations interested in the Bartram Trail Study will participate in the meeting with their questions and comments. The Bartram Trail Conference will also be participating in the meeting. A representative will also be present to explain their participation in the study effort. The Bartram Trail, named for William Bartram, a naturalist-explorer in the 18th century, is one of 22 trail studies authorized by the National Trails System Act, Public Law 90-543, as amended. Study teams have been organized to study the proposed Bartram Trail to determine its potential for designation as a National Trail in the National Trails System. The study is being done by a joint Federal/State task force represented by BOR, the eight States, and the Bartram Trail Conference.
