Most members of America?s : work force will take advantage i of Labor Day?s three-day ' weekend to pay tribute to them-I selves with a flurry of picnics, fireworks and various other events.
I Among special Labor Day events locally are a fireworks I display and a charity telethon.
| The Waveland Civic Associa-I tion will sponsor the Jerry Lew-I is Muscular Dystrophy Telethon, beginning at 6 p.m. today

According to association President Jay Lagasse, the telethon?s goal for Hancock County and West Harrison County this year is $20,000.
Lagasse, whose father started the campaign, estimated that $100,000 has been raised locally in the 13 years the Civic Association has sponsored the event.
For the first time, donors may make their contributions
through major credit cards.
A donation ?fish bowl? will be on hand at the telethon headquarters and volunteers will be soliciting donation s by ?shaking cans? at various points around the county.
The Muscular Dystrophy Telethon may be contacted at 467-9005 during the 24-hour event.
The Civic Association?s annual fireworks display, conducted by the Waveland Fire Department, will be this evening, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

JoAnn Lagasse of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Bay St. Louis was recently named to an advisory committee for the Older Americans Act Eldercare Volunteer Corps in
Jackson.
The committee, created by
the Mississippi Department of Human Services? Division of Aging and Adult Services, will oversee the Eldercare Volunteer Corps in providing services to the state?s elderWwho are at risk of becoming/dependent citizens.	<
