The earliest record we have of the Wingates coming to America is that of Charles Wyngate, born i:'. 16H, who came to Virginia in 1635. We find no further record of him. JOHN WINGATE, born in 1623, came from England to Jamaica, later coming to Virginia.
JOHN WINGATE came to New Hampshire about the year 1658 and is generally believed to be the ancestor of the American families of Wingate. John carried on lumbering, farming and shipbuilding at Dover. New Hampshire. In 1660 he was made freeman and in 1674. 1686 and 1687 he was one of the selectmen. When the Indian War becran he was placed in command of Company U Militia and thus obtained the title of Captain Wingate.
His son, JOHN WINGATE II, was born 1655; was a useful citizen of Dover and his prominence was in the military line, as the Indians were very troublesome during his lifetime. In 1707 John II was Captain of a Company in the expedition against Port Royal. He married and had a son, John III, who also spent his life on the old homestead in Dover. He was a member of the Militia and in 1740 was commissioned Lieutenant of the second Foot Company of Dover. From 1729 to 1752 he was selectman and was moderator in several town meetings. .!? HiX wlNCJA?iU II!, uort. in 1088, \\aa a veiy able businessman and uel?ore 1745 he had risen to Captain of the Dover Company and in that year was elected Representative for Dover in the Provincial Assembly. Hr ?v-ifp ivn'Tie 1, his second wife being a MISS RICKER. He had a son. Daniel, born in 1723. DANIEL WINGATE lived in Rochester, New Hampshire, and owned a large and profitable farm near there. In the winter he carried on lumbering extensively. Daniel married MARY I'RdST. by whom be had ;i son. WILLIAM, born in 1750. He was a skilled mechanic and expert house builder. He followed his father?s trade and prospered in bucinoe'. William Wingate married SARA l.liMH.LY and had several children.

Wingate (no records of Ned Wingate).
Four girls:
Amelia Wingate; Cary Wingate; Amy Wingate; Mary Wingate.
(No record of their marriages. William Wingate may have had other
children that I do not have listed.)

ROBERT POTTER WINGATE married a MISS PHERBEE KELLEY. They had two children, one boy and one girl. The boy, born in 1819, was named David Robert Wingate. Elizabeth, the girl, married a Mr. Fraisuer. Robert Potter Wingate married the second time to Mary Bacoats and had three boys and five girls by his second marriage. The boys were named Laborn Wingate, Sam Wingate and Acv Wingate. Sam Wingate was never married. Acy Wingate married, but died soon after leaving no children.
Girls? names: Amelia Wingate (twice married) ; first to a Mr. Perry and second to a Mr. Seals;
Sarah Wingate married a Mr. Burks;
Maria Wingate married a Mr. Smith;
Salomia Wingate married a Mr. Harper;
Louise Wingate (twice married); first to a Mr. Price and second a Mr. McCoy.
DAVIED ROBERT WINGATE man ied MISS CAROLINE MORGAN and they had six children, four boys and two girls.
Gills? names: Mary and Mittie Wingate. Mary Wingate died at the age of 12 years. Mittie Wingate married Ben Northweather and had no children.
Boys' names: John Wingate; Robert Pope Wingate; Walter Jurden Wingate, and Davied Rufus Wingate.
