PARK ADM.INIST ID: vYT? "........................ OCT 19^ 9=02 No.002 P.02 J^o-i .-From C<ar+ hy I am Reine Helluy de Montluzin, born on June 12,1833. T married L.A. de Montluzin in 1847 at the age of fourteen. With two of my children, I emigrated to America in 1856 to join my husband and oldest son to live in Convent, Louisiana. My father, Jean George Helluy, was a candy-maker of Polish descent. From my father, 1 learned the delicate art of candy-making which I continued to make in Louisiana. Many of my tasty candies became an important part of the Louisiana heritage, especially because they were made from Louisiana grown sugar cane! My husband L.A. suffered a heart attack in 1874 so we decided to move to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to retire. At the prompting of our son Alfred, my husband opened a drug store on Main Street in 1878 which remained until it was destroyed by Hurricane Camille in 1969. We raised six children in Bay Saint Louis. My husband died on December 26,1909. Grief stricken, I died less than 1 month later on January 19,1910. My husband and 1 were married for 69 years.
