COMMUNITY SECTIO B In full bloom Bay-Waveland Garden Club marks BY JANET MCQUEEN Members of the Bay-Waveland Garden Club celebrated “50 Years Young” with an afternoon reception in the Garden Center on Thursday, Oct. 13. Approximately 100 members, former members and guests took advantage of the beautiful sunny day to commemorate the accomplishments of the club and its contribution to the community. Two charter members reside in Bay St. Louis, Jo DeBeaver, and Margaret Otis. Mrs. Otis was honored by the group for remaining an active member since Sept. 27, 1938. Former president and 50th anniversary celebration chairman Lynette Nybo presented Mrs. Otis with a framed certificate proclaiming her a lifetime active member and praised her as a source of continued inspiration to the club. She served as president from 1954-56, and was commended for her graciousness and devotion to the group. Also credited for their lasting contributions were Dot Russell and the late Edwina Mogabgab. Mrs. Russell was longtime Civic Development Chairman and Mrs. Mogabgab served as president. Both were noted as accredited flower show judges. Hancock County Library Board of Trustees chairman Betty Claggett of Diamondhead presented BWGC president Aggie Tompkins with a plaque in appreciation of the club’s endeavors in the landscaping and continued maintenance of the library grounds. Formed in 1938 with the purpose of “improving and beautifying the city”, the club now boasts 73 members and has adopted 33 projects for the 1988-89 year. New projects include contributions to a Fitness Trail at Hancock Medical Center; landscaping the Valena C.
