United Way Continued from Page 1A —Hancock County Community Youth Task Force - Empowering the community to facilitate decision-making abilities of youth, provide wholesome activities for youth, and to reduce the incidence of teen pre-gancy, drug and alcohol use. •—Hancock County Blood Bank - Since 1953 this local organization has been working with people to collect blood, which is drawn and stored by the Red Cross. The Blood Bank keeps the community aware of the need for donating blood. —Hancock County Emergency Relief - The center operated round the clock under the direction of Hancock County clergy, to help local and transient persons with emergency needs, such as food, clothing, assistance with utility bills, prescription medicines, etc. —Hancock County Firemen’s Doll and Toy Fund - At Christmas time each year local fire- men play Santa Claus to the deserving children of Hancock County. They collect new toys and repair used ones throughout the year. —Hancock County Food Pantry - The Food Pantry, since its organization in May 1986, has aided 5,883 people with food supplies. Clients are referred through the Welfare Department, ministers, churches, the Health Department, RSVP, and doctors. —Hancock County 4-H Club -Assisting youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes to enable them to become selfdirecting, productive, contributing members of society. —Hancock Senior Citizen Center - Provides and/or funds the following services to Hancock County residents 60 plus years of age: transportation, meals, art and crafts classes, information, referral, informal counsel- ing, homemaker services. —New Orleans Area Council, Boy Scouts of America - Over 5,000 positive volunteer role models leading over 23,000 youth in a program designed to help them reach their fullest potential. Serving Hancock County and the greater New Orleans area. —Parents and Professionals of Exceptional Children - A group of parents and teachers who meet once a month to plan recreational programs for children and to share information. Also provides summer recreational programs. —Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) - A service organization dedicated to involving senior citizens over the age of 60 in service to their community, serving over 96,000 hours annually in 42 nonprofit organizations in Hancock County. —Salvation Army, Gulfport — With a canned food item from 9:30 am-5:00 pm Saturday, October 12 and receive a treat, a balloon and your face painted. Winner of the coloring contest will receive a prize! Celebrate Halloween early at the “Boo Bash99 to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry.
