and more yachtsmen are using their boats for weekend travel and extended vacations,
The Gulf Coast can lay claim to more than its share of pleasure boat enthusiasts. The mild climate allows boat owners to use their crafts practically year round, The Mississippi State Fish and Game Commission records indicate that there are more than 16,500 power boats, greater than 16 feet in length currently registered in Hancock and Harrison counties. This means there is
1	boat registered for every 10 residents in these two counties. If we count >
boats smaller than 16 feet and sailboats, the number would be even higher.
? i
Comparatively, the New Orleans Metropolitan Area has only 1 boat registered

for every 200 residents.
The proposed site of the Bay St. Louis Marina is well located to appeal
to all types of pleasure boaters. For larger boats the marina's location at
i
the mouth of the Bay provides quick access to deeper water without having to pass thru the bridges crossing the entrance to Bay St. Louis. Smaller boats, which can pass under the bridges, can quickly reach the protected waters of the Bay.
This location is an excellent launch point for an easy run to some of the best fishing spots in the Mississippi and Louisiana coastal area. (See Table I and
Figure 1.) For smaller boats the inland vyaters of the Jordan, Wolf and Pearl
t
Rivers are an easy cruise away, as are the coastal fishing areas in the Mississippi Sound.
