With the recent funding received from the State of Mississippi it is now time to start x planning and creating the first phase of the Museum. Museum committees are ^ composed of volunteer members of the community with experience in construction, maintenance and restoration of historical structures.
"PHASE ONE" objectives are to write a "RFP" (Request for Proposal), develop a bid package for distribution, and select an architect and contractor for the renovation of the old high school band hall. This RFP will specify design parameters required to accommodate the needs of the museum within the requirements of Mississippi historical structures.
The general needs of the Museum in this beginning development is a conference room for community participation, an area with environmental control to store artifacts, a small office, and restrooms. The RFP will provide candidates for the 1 architect award with the best design for the renovation. The best design will be
judged by the committee and will include the most efficient use of light and best utilization of the monetary budget. The plan is to complete the RFP, award the contract, and start construction in the Fall of this year.
In conjunction with the "Phase One" of the renovation of the band hall, the Audubon Society suggested a well-defined "Nature Path" be established along the length of the bayou that runs along the Western boundary of the Museum property. The path would include at least two small observation platforms, along with interpretive signage. The development of this project will be in collaboration with the Audubon Society and volunteers, directed by Mark LaSalle.	Submitted by Robert Smith
