Pass Christian and points east, the people living along the way also realize that what has long been a very quiet and private little world will suddenly be bordered by a major highway and the traffic it brings.
"It will take some getting used to," said McDermott. "It has been like a private beach. There is still very little lighting on this side."
"I think there are going to be more accidents," said DeLisle resident Deborah Dauner. "People are used to no traffic at all. It will definitely bring more people, but I'm not sure at this point what they will stop here for (Pass Christian). Still, it will be nice to to be able to go over to the Bay early in the morning for coffee."
Pass Christian police officer Clinton Jacobs said he just doesn't foresee any downside to reconnecting the Coast.
"I think it's great and a definite necessity," said Jacobs. "I don't anticipate any problems."
With the bridge suddenly gone after Hurricane Katrina, many people on both sides of the Bay began a 50- to 60- mile trek around the long way to reach businesses, schools and churches. Many more just did not bother to make the trip at all.
