ENCAMPMENT AT MISSISSIPPI CITY OF FIRST REGIMENT'T.OUISIA"A FIELD ARTILLERY TO INCLUDE NAVAL AND LAND MANEUVERS August 12 - 20, 1871 ENCAMPMENT AT KISSISSIPPI CITY The coming annual encampment of the Regiment Louisiana Field Artillery promises to be a grand affair. The o-'Ticrrs and rrer.fcers of the Artillery and their friends of the Infantry and Cavalry vill assemble at the different arsenals on Saturday evening August 12, 1871, at k 1/2 o’clock and vill proceed fcv the New Orleans, Motile and Texas Railroad to Mississippi City (headquarters Barnes Hotel) and remain in camp until August 20th. The field guns and tents vill be shipped under charge of a detail on Thursday evening in order to have everything ready on the arrival of the Regiment. Napoleon and Gatlin Gurs VJhile in camp there vill be target practice vith the Napoleon guns for the prize presented by Messrs. Griswold Co. (jevelers), and also vith the celebrated Gatlin guns or mitrailleuse. The prize to be contested for vith these guns vas presented by Mr. E. A. Tyler. Sham Battle Maw and Arrv On Saturday, August 19, 1371, there will be a grand sham battle in which the gunboats will take part vith the steam yacht of our fellov citizen, Mr. Charles Cavaroc, as flagship of the fleet. $ We have’not ' heard yet who will command the fleet, but from the arrangements reported to have been made our citizens will have a very good i~ea of how an engagement, both land and naval, is brought on. Of course, the troops vill be eventually landed and the grand fight on land vill take place.
