VI.	THE COMPETITION AND PADDLEWHEEL PRODUCTIONS, INC.
A.	There are numerous entertainment options on the Coast, particularly at the casinos. Entertainment at most of the casinos is cabaret type, several present Las Vegas revues and individual artists; one offers a dance spectacular. However, there is no professional theatre offering musicals with a theme or strong plot. The musicals produced by the Troubadours of PaddleWheel Productions are of the same genre as Oklahoma and Show Boat - musicals which tell a story in music and dialogue which can be understood and enjoyed by all generations. The rapidly growing year- round tourist population plus the growing residential population
offer sufficient numbers to support all types of entertainment.
B.	To be a constant tourist attraction, a theatre must operate almost all year, so
that visitors with various vacation times can plan on seeing a good show and the local
%	population can be confident that good quality entertainment is always available.	The
Troubadours will rehearse new productions in off hours while performing on a continuous schedule for 50 weeks per year.
C.	There are road shows at the Coliseum, but only two or three shows per year.
D.	The closest constantly performing professional repertory company is Alabama Shakespeare Festival near Montgomery, AL. The Festival produces Shakespeare, some original plays, and standard Broadway fare. The theatres operate year round. However,
the Alabama Shakespeare Festival is more than 300 miles from Waveland and is not expected to have an adverse effect on potential audiences. Also, there have been earlier discussions about possible repertory theatre tours originating on the East Coast, coming through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and on to Arkansas and Texas. These discussions are being pursued.
E.	Professional companies perform at the Saenger in New Orleans, but average five productions a year, each running about two weeks. Other than professionals who perform at the casinos, the nearest resident professional company is New Stage in Jackson which offers Broadway and Off Broadway fare, but does not operate continuously. A production will run for several weeks, when that production is over, the theatre is dark while another show is in * rehearsal.
F.	There is excellent community theatre across the Coast, but although numerous professionals work with these organizations, the productions are generally showcases for volunteers, these theatres do not operate on a constant basis. However, because there is such good community theatre and other excellent music and art in the area, a display board in the lobby will list cultural events suitable for family entertainment so that visitors
