“Aunt Mary,” who seems to be suffering from “If-it’s-Tuesday-this-must-be-Belgium”-syndrome, writes:
“Pass Christian La. June 27/05, If you had had one of these boats last summer at West Hampton M. would never have been able to keep you on shore—Aunt Mary.” The original card which has a sepia color cast seems to be a photographic print and shows (rather indistincdy) the shoreline from the old Bielenberg store (west side of Memorial Park) on the left to the old Presbyterian Church at Seal Avenue on the far right.

Reverse side: This card has one of the earliest actual postmarks, having been mailed on June 27,1905. (The earliest Pass Christian postmarked card we have seen dates from 1904.) The date of the actual photo is uncertain. About 1901 there were a series of photos taken of Pass Christian that were later used as postcards. But we have also seen an image from 1894’s Along the Gulf used in postcard issued after 1907. And the sailboat scene in this sepia card appears a few years later in an enlarged size on a black and white postcard entided “16—Pass Christian, Elmer Northrop & Co. Publishers, Pass Christian, Miss.” which was part of a series still being mailed into the 1920s.
