Oldest brother of Jefferson Davis, Joseph Emory Davis, married Eliza Van Benthuysen on October 5, 1827, when she was 16 and he was 43.
T. P. Van Benthuysen was probably her brother?s son and so the Nephew of Joseph and Eliza Davis.
Per Page 151 - Eliza Van Benthuysen from New Orleans was of a New York Dutch family (also spelled Bentheson, Bentheyson, and Benthyson). She was an invalid most of her life. She died at Lauderdale springs, Miss., seeking safety after the fall of Vicksburg.
