Unplanned Trip Taken By Freezer
GULF SHORES,, Ala. AP-This is the story of the flying freezer which winged its way three miles across a lagoon on j winds of a tornado spawned by Hurricane Camille,
The freezer ended its voyage undamaged and without spilling a bit of its load of meat.
Bill Malone, president of Ma- j , lone Construction Co., today at-1 tested to the truth of the story.
Malone said a home owned by I two of his employes, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McAdoo, was de- j stroyed by a tornado, apparent- j ly on Monday, Aug. 18, while j hurricane winds from Camille I were raking the coast.	j
The family had evacuated the i home, located on West Gulf ; Boulevard, south of Little La-1 goon.	I
The following day the freezer was found on the north shore of Little Lagoon approximately j three miles from the McAdoo i home, Malone said.
The finders retrieved the con- j tents and located the owners \ from names on the meat pack- f ages. The meat was described as still in good condition. j
The freezer was taken to a repair shop for a check and overhaul.
“A refrigeration expert said no water was found inside the; box, and there was no evidence, of water in the motor or anyi water in the insulation,” Malone; said.
“I thought it had been in the salt water, but the refrigera-; tion expert said it had not.; When he plugged it in, it start- i ed up perfectly.”	j
