One of the most significant by-products of America's technological strides and economic growth during the twentieth century has been the increase in liesure time for the average worker. This liesure time coupled with the rising affluence of Americans has fostered the growth of a multi-billion dollar recreation industry in this country. Water sports, and in particular boating, have always been one of the more popular forms of recreation. Last year alone the boating industry contributed over two billion dollars to the nation's economy. Recreation boating is a very diverse sport encompassing many activities. Crusing Within each of these classes a wide variety of pursuits are availible to the participants depending on the size and type of boat they own. Sailing, and fishing from a boat are the oldest anc} most popular boating activities. Sailing ?t can include anything from a "surfboard with a sail" to the deep water ocean racers. Fishing is done from small runabouts along the inland and coastal waters, or from large yachts hunting tarpon and sailfish in the deeper waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Sport boating, which includes such activities as power boat racing, water skiing, and houseboat camping, has Increased steadly in popularity over the years.
