EARLIEST RECORDED MARRIAGES AT OUR LADY OF THE GULF AT BAY ST. LOUIS, MISSISSIPPI.
Originally, Priest Stanislaus Buteau began recording the marriages of White, and Indian races on Page 1 and continued numerically thereafter. He started on Page 187 with recording the marriages of Free Colored People and continued numerically on succeeding pages following ?age 187.
This practice was followed by Priest Henry Leduc until the year 1869. Entries . in the section reserved for Free Colored People stopped with Page 194 and the last entry being dated December 30, 1868.
Therefore beginning with entries dated January 1869 and thereafter, there was no division of races in recording of marriages. It is also curious to note that prior to 1869 all records were written in the French language, with few exceptions. Beginning in January 1869, the records were then written in the English language, with very few exceptions.

This was a blessing of a prior civil marriage.

10	Jean Bordages married at Bayou Portage on June 14, 1848 to Marie Saucier.
11	St. Jean Barabino (colored people) married October 25, 1848 to Celina Ladner. NOTE: This marriage was also entered in section of Marriage Book 1 entitled "Free People of Color" on Page 187 as Act 523.
12	Gentil Luc Guery, with dispensation of 3° consanguinity, married December 7, 1848 Odile Ladner. Wit: J. V. Toulme.
13	Ezra Carver married December 7, 1848 Elisabeth Batson.
14	Pierre Saucier, with dispensation of 3° consanguinity, married December 21, 1848 Aglae Dedeaux. Wit: Philippe Saucier and Jean Baptiste Saucier.
