Cazere(s?), Mr. A., and family, who occupied the Gardebled cottage last summer, will spend the coming summer here, having rented the Ruisech property.  (SCE 05/06/1893)

Pelletier, Mr. and Mrs. J.B., and children, Mr. and Mrs. P. Theriot and child and Mr. A. Cazeres, of New Orleans, were here Sunday, guests of Mrs. C. Gardebled.  (SCE 05/ 06/1893)

Cazere - deSilva, the Misses, Mrs. P. Theriot, and Mr. A. Cazere were among those aboard the "FLYING DUTCHMAN" for a delightful sailing party Wednesday evening. (SCE, 7/15/ 1893)

Cedar Point - A Booming Locality - The locality of our progressive and attractive city known as Cedar Point is not backward in the least towards its advancement and material growth. We are reliably informed that nearly all the rear lots are being purchased by strangers and will soon be sites of some very pretty residences. Mr. Chas. Cowand, so progressive and wide awake, is to erect two neat and pretty cottages on his land, and expects to have them completed before many weeks.  Other improvements about Cedar Point are being contemplated.

The canning factory is an important factor towards the development and building of that section, and we may add that more factories will not harm the place.  (SCE 12/10/1892)

Celestine, Brother, of the college, left for New Orleans Monday morning.  He went with the College's educational exhibits to bound.  These exhibits are for the World's Fair and are of high merit.  At the Paris Exposition this College carried off high honors, and we believe its work will so be distinguished in Chicago.  (SCE 04/08/1893)

Members of the Hancock County Historical Society will be in the Cedar Rest Cemetery Oct. 26 - Nov 1 (1984) to record any unmarked graves or graves with headstones that are unreadable because of wear or damage.

The society is seeking information from individuals whose relatives' graves have been destroyed and also proof of burials in cemetery.

Cedar Rest Cemetery has rows with temporary markers.  All readable graves have been recorded and listed alphabetically.  Of the 2,350 possible first burial spaces, only 1,532 are readably marked; 198 headstones have been broken or are blank; six graves are marked with a given name but not a family name; and 381 vacant spaces are within copings, indicating possible spaces for future burials of family members, according to Meg Hilliker, who is in charge of the project.  Also there are possibly 174 vacant plots unclaimed by copings or markers, she said. Anyone with questions or information about burials in the cemetery is asked to contact Mrs. Hilliker at 467-6109 or Peggy Gibbens at 467-8665.

Cedar Rest, located on Second Street, is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.  The northern sector was given to the city in 1880.

Among Hancock County notables buried in Cedar Rest are John B. Toulme, first mayor of Shieldsboro; John Martin, who contributed the land that is now a part of Main Street; Joan Newman Seal, who contributed part of the cemetery's land; and Louis Piernas, first postmaster of Shieldsboro.
