CEDAR REST CEMETERY TROUGH TO BE RESTORED FOR ALL SAINTS
The Mayors office of the City of Bay St. Louis anounced this week that the watering tough located at the Cedar Rest Cemetery is presently being restored to its original state for use on All Saints Day.
In the past, the tough was used by relatives and friends when they needed water for plants or mixing of concrete to repair copans around graves.
Through apparent neglect, much concrete had accumulated on the edges of the trough, thereby clogging it up, and stumps had grown through part of he drainage system. It had also beome unlevel, thereby hindering the proper drainage flow.
According to Mayor Larry J. Bennett, the city crews have dug up the trough and are now having it sand-blasted ad painted. New concrete has been poured and the trough will be returned to as near its original state as possible.
This project will be completed by All Saints Day in connection with this project, the United Staes Marine Corps, under the direction of Sgt. Frank G. Heanue, Gunnery Sergeant of the Marine Corps Recruiting Service in Gulfport, will present a flag to the City of Bay St. Louis, to be flown from Cedar Rest Cemetery.
As far as can be determined, the flagpole at the cemetery has remained without a flag for approximately 20 years. To celeberate the Feast of All Saints Day, Father Louis Lohan of Our Lady of the Gulf Church, will perform a service outside the Cedar Rest Cemetery at 10 a.m. in conjunction wth the presentation of the flag.
