Dickson, Laurent  -  July 28, 1961

Final rites were Sunday morning from Fahey-Whitfield Funeral Home for Laurent Dickson, 70, who died at 4 P. M. Sunday at Gulf View Haven. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans.

A native of New Orleans, he had resided in Bay St. Louis for the past 32 years and formerly owned Dickson Drug Store.

"Doc" Dickson, as he was familiarly known, was commander of American Legion Clement R. Bontemps Post 139 for three years, 1931, 1932, and 1934. He was chaplain of the Post's firing squad for several years and was chief de Guerre of the Coast Voiture of the 40 and 8 in 1951. He held numerous other 40 and 8 offices and in more recent years served as one of the post's trustees.

A member of Our Lady of the Gulf Parish, he held a number of civic offices including secretary of the local Selective Service board since 1940.

He was husband of the late May dePorter by his first marriage and the late Pearl Bennett by his second.

Serving are a son, Jerry L. Dickson, New Orleans, and a sister, Mrs. Irene S. Dickson, and four grandchildren, all of New Orleans.

DICKSON--At Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on Friday, July 28 1961, at 4 o'clock p.m., Laurent Dickson, age 79 years, husband by first marriage of the late Mary DePoorter and by second marriage of the late Pearl Bennett, father of Jerry L. Dickson of new Orleans, La., brother of Miss Irene S. Dickson of New Orleans, La., survived by 4 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.

Services from the Fahey-Whitfield Funeral Home, Bat St. Louis Miss., on Sunday, July 30, 1961, at 9:30 o'clock a.m.

Interment in Greenwood cemetery, New Orleans, La., at 12:30 p.m.
