Charitable Lectures
A lecture on "Popular Songs" will be delivered in this city on Monday evening (Jan. 22, 1866) next, by William Evelyn, Esq.. of New Orleans, better known by his nom de plune "Bohemian," editor of "Y.?ar Songs of the South," etc. The lecture is intended for the benefit of the widows and orphans of Southern soldiers, an object that appeals to the charitable feelings of the whole community.
The same lecture will be delivered in Montgomery on Thursday next (Jan. 2l*5), and in New Orleans the latter part of the ensuing week, for the benefit of Stonewall Jackson's widow.
Government Sale
A large Government sale takes place at Montgomery by Captain E. P. Graves on January 25, consisting of 600 cords of wood, mules, horses, wagons, camp and garrison equipage, and tents.
A meeting was called on Tuesday evening of the Scotchmen to celebrate th^ 107th anniversav of the Birthday of Robert Burns.
Steamer Creole Almost Ready
The steamer Creole, Captain Charles Walker, which has been hauled up for repairs, will be ready to leave a^ain for New Orleans in about a week.
She has been thoroughly	repaired,	from	her keel	up.	newly
painted inside and out. Her	cabins	will be	refitted	with new
furniture and carpets.
She will be the popular boat this season for thos who visit the watering nlaces or have business in New Orleans.
Vessels Dam^ged
During a heavy gale this morning, accompanied by thunder, lightning and rain, the steamer Reindeer broke from her moorings, and was driven onto the blockade runner Red Gaunt let. and was then driven -shore on the opposite side about a mile from where she broke loose.
The steamer Annie. Captain Baldwin, ran on to the obstructions in a heavy fog, and her cargo is being taken off by a lighter. She was	bound for the Eastern shore and	it	will	cost ?5,000	to repair
her	after she gets off.
The Sparks, which broke in two on the obstructions, is being wrecked of all that is available.
