Dear Ms. Anderson,
I am somewhat perplexed by your letter dated July 26th regarding your inconvenience and concern about the Depot completion. It has never been the intent of the City to eliminate the library from our plans. We have made every attempt to keep you informed of the progress of the construction but unfortunately it is a project that is not totally under our control. We have waited as anxiously as you have for the completion of the facility.
I want to respond to several points that you brought out in your letter that I feel are not justified. First, let me say that the lease agreement that we structured with the landlord was only to be temporary in the interim (6 months) and month to month thereafter not knowing a specific date for completion of the Depot. If there would have been any concern that we would lose the building it would have been prudent for us to notify you. This was not a problem. We have also invested thousands of dollars in the temporary building, (ie, carpet, shelving, alarm system, repair of the air conditioning system, lighting, bathroom improvements), in addition to the copier the city purchased for your use only. We would not have made these investments if we were not intending to have the library as part of the plans.
Another point regarding contact with my staff and the architect, I have a memo dated May 17,	199	where Mr. Olsen listed points of
discussion with you regarding hours of operation, moving schedule,' timing and other pertinent items. He even discussed with you the microfilm arrangements and changes needed to accommodate the older patrons. This resulted in a conversation the architect had with you to make these changes. I know that this has happened within the last couple of months. To say that we have not kept you informed is not true.
