opens Monday
An exhibition of work by Bay St. Louis artist Kat Fitzpatrick will open Monday in the first floor lobby of City Hall. Portraits are the focus of the ten-painting exhibit.
?Backgrounds are lush, humid exteriors or cool clean interiors, with the subject always serene. It is obvious that the artist is not an interloper, but a confidant invited to see the subject as they see their own reflection,? said Mike Cuevas, spokesman. ?The attention to detail by Fitzpatrick is comforting.?
A New Orleans native, Fitzpatrick received her BA from the University of New Orleans with further study at the University of Florida.
Already an accomplished painter, the artist continued to expand her talents while living in Tampa through ceramic sculpture. She was commissioned by the city of Tampa to do bas-relief, now hanging in downtown Tampa.
Asked why portraits were her major focus, Fitzpatrick remarked, ?I?m a figurative painter and portraiture combines the painting style I prefer with my enjoyment of people.
?A portrait can affirm the good feeling a subject has about himself. A portrait is a better reflection of one?s essence than a photograph.?
The exhibit is open to the public at no charge, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-July. For more information call Cuevas at, ,
