At one time our Summer Season began early, say about April and
lasted avay into October, but this is so no longer. It is now
reduced to July and August.
Recommended people raise hay, corn and meat on the thousands of
acres in Hancock County.
Two months of Summer business and 10 months of idleness will
not produce a living.
Lumber vas important industry in west Hancock at Pearlington,
along Pearl River.
G&inesville and Logtovn. Bay St. Louis area was commercial center
and residential area for New Orleans people. Schools, churches, and
fishing industry were located on Sound and Bay shore.	k
Bay St. Louis vas losing its Oyster Boats to Biloxi apparently
due to canning factories there providing market at better prices,
according to Jan. 23» lS97» paper.
On December 12, I896, a Business Men's League vas formed. It
Includes many names of County leaders.
October 3, 1896, it vas reported the Bay St. Louis Hotel, operatec
by Mrs. Allen for 7 years, had been sold to St. Stanislaus College for
$9,000. It vas torn down to make room for expansion of the school.
