Twenty boats competed in the Spring Regatta hosted by BucYC. This is the home of “Doctor”. When the “Doctor” makes a house call, the breeze usually blows 15-20 from the south. The “Doctor” must have been playing golf that weekend, because the prevailing winds were light and fluky.
BWYC was represented by Ann and Clinton Edwards. Ann was tied with her competition for Top Woman after Saturday’s racing. Clinton was in third place, ahead of the fourth and fifth place boats by one and three points, respectively. Three races were sailed Saturday. Ann received honors for Top Woman and ninth overall as she finished just ahead of her competition in Sunday’s three races. Clinton slipped back to fourth overall after aggressive move to keep ahead of his competition resulted in a foul.
School’s Out regatta was the first real hot regatta of the year. As the small, but talented fleet started the first race, Bishop Stieffel took the lead, but slowly melted out of it. There were three lead changes in the first race. The second and third races were captured by Clinton Edwards. Saturday’s results had Clinton hanging onto a one point lead with three boats hot on his tail (8, 10, 11 pts). Bishop was in third place, still melting. Two races were sailed on Sunday. Bishop finished melting and started blistering; however, this occurred on his feet and not on the race as he walked down the street barefooted. Clinton took first place overall with a second and first on Sunday. Ann, again, received To Woman honors.
