At a recent meeting held in the office of Hon. August Kellar, this city, at which was present some of the most influential and prominent men of Bay St. Louis and Waveland, the above club (Bay-Waveland Yacht Club) was organized, and present indications point to its permanent success.
The club building will be located at the head of Washington Street and we are told, will be thoroughly modem in architecture. A club of this kind has long been wanted in this city, as for many years past the Bay has been a racing center, but all the great races were prearranged in the Crescent City. Hereafter they can be arranged right here.
Besides being a yacht club, it will also offer many social advantages, as it will be handsomely fitted, and during the summer months concerts and other amusements will be some of its prominent features. The capital stock has been fixed at $10,000, divided into 400 shares at $25.
It is presumed the required number of names will be easily ascertainable. The Echo welcomes this organization and wishes it a brilliant future.
The following named gentlemen, all prominent and well known, have been elected officers of the Bay St. Louis and Waveland Yacht Club: T. R. Richardson, Commodore; L. H. Fairchild, Vice
I	Commodore; O. Elmer, Rear Commodore; W. H. Cook, Secretary; and August Keller, Treasurer.
Ladies Auxiliary Disbands
Hie Members present at the Annual Meeting on November 19th were stunned when Joan ■ Wilkinson, President of the Ladies Auxiliary, read the following letter to the assembly:
The present Ladies Auxiliary of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club was founded in 1973. Its purpose was to act as an Auxiliary to the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club; to assist in the activities of the Yacht Club; and to promote goodwill.
We’ve been sailing along more or less smoothly for the past twenty-one years. We’ve prepared a list of our gifts to the Club since l9S3(see list elsewhere in this issue of the Jib Sheet) and I believe that it’s quite impressive in that our gifts total about forty thousand dollars.
All good thing must come to an end, or perhaps just a hiatus, so that we can pass the reins of leadership to the younger and more energetic Members of the Club. We will be happy to offer advice and to assist them, but we are ready to sit back and rest on our laurels.
The present Ladies Auxiliary was officially disbanded at our November Meeting and to quote Longfellow:
Lives of all great men (women) remind us
We can make our lives sublime
and, departing leave behind us,
Footprints in the sands of time.
Everyone is saddened by the demise of this fine organization and the Club will certainly miss the wonderful gifts that the Ladies have so thoughtfully presented over the years. We can only hope that the younger women of the Club will band together and step in to replace this very much appreciated resource. An auxiliary function is needed.
