BILOXI BACK BAY BRIDGE Biloxi, Kiss., August 3, 1901 --
The City Council of Biloxi at a meeting last night passed an order receiving the Back Bay Bridge, and directing the City Treasurer to pay the amount of £18,000 due thereon. As soon as this order was made, the tridge contractors who were present, formally delivered the structure to the City of Biloxi and relinquished all claim for its construction.
The Council then elected a Keeper and it was formally opened for traffic and travel this morning — August 3, 1901.
The onening of the Bridge Is expected to mark a new era in the commercial history of the city. It makes Biloxi accessible to every portion of Harrison County, which has hither to been shut off by the Back Bay which could only be crossed by Ferry at considerable expense and inconvenience.
An immense trade is expected to be done over it.
It is an iron bridge with a draw in the center and will cost all told about $"200,000. The citizens were jubilant today at the opening.
