Ttie works of 16 local artists are mounted on The Bay of St. Louis Bridge id are now enduring reminders of the resilience of the people along the \Ussissippi Gulf Coast. Because of the work of Greg Moran, a local sculptor . i^d ironworker, 22 pieces of art are cast in bronze and are now a permanent ;^rt of this majestic bridge.
i;*«r the past year Greg has been dedicated to the task of creating mile :i*arkers and metal versions of the works by the selected artists to be ;J«iced along the balustrades of the pedestrian walkway He worked rLt-iessly during the already labor-intensive process to ensure that each list's work was given the attention it deserved.
i sees his work on this project as a way to contribute to the recovery of 3** ■ (Julf Coast. He rode out Katrina on the land that lias been farmed by his i*-=ay for generations. After the storm passed, he immediately got on his r« tCKir and started clearing the road so that others could have an escape n n3e. After hours of work, he heard a roar. It was a neighbor clearing the n «.*i from the other end. Greg knew then that the only way to recovery was > r everyone to do their part; that we were all in this together.
(iffg earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from William Carey College and m Hved a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University with ,% i ltnphasis in sculpture and drawing. 1 le was an adjunct faculty member at william Carey College and is currently teaching at the Pascagoula Opportunity ( niitr through the CIS (Communities in Schools) Program.
'Tti have some small part in the rejoining of our community which was rated after these bridges came down is really a remarkable thing. The *ge given by the MDOT officials is that the bridge is not finished until •**- jn is up. This is a scale of public art that is usually seen only in large
II	is a testament to Mississippi’s commitment to the arts.”
