As a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi, Shea Marie Nicosia is already reflecting on her life growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the memories created that will remain with her throughout her life. Her affection for coastal living along the Mississippi Gulf Coast began at age 10 when Shea’s family moved to Long Beach. The small town atmosphere coupled with a relaxed coastal lifestyle gave Shea the idyllic childhood that inspires her, even at a young age, to want to give something back to the community that gave so much to her.
Shea takes her inspiration from other local artists who have supplied her formal training and have shared with her their individual styles and techniques. Shea will graduate from college in May of 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration. She plans to work toward a Master’s degree following graduation.
Shea’s love for the coastal waters led her to select an underwater scene as her submission for the bridge. 1 ler work offers her interpretation of the playful antics displayed by the fish she has observed while scuba diving in the Gulf waters.
“1 am honored to be a part of this project and to have the opportunity to say thank you to all who have encouraged me and been part of my life on the coast.”
