Buccaneer State Park’s new Wave Pool provides a safe way to enjoy the action of the ocean. It gives the swimmer a chance to play in the surf and swim in calm waters.
Buccaneer State Park Wave Pool
Buccaneer State Park has always had such offerings as the Gulf of Mexico, marshlands, bayous, and a vast array of land and water recreational activities. And now Buccaneer State Park offers Mississippi’s first wave pool — a swimming pool with live waves.
The wave pool is a source of fun for everyone, providing a place for rafting, body surfing, playing in the whitecaps or just relaxing in the rolling action of the waves. The gradual sloping of the pool bottom and the waves are similar to the ocean, yet the water is clean and safe from sudden drop-offs and undertow.
A series of electric motors drive high speed fans that create the wave action in ten-minute cycles. The swimmer has the opportunity to swim for ten minutes in waves, and then for ten minutes in calm water.
Handicapped persons will also find the wave pool exciting and easily accessible. Park personnel will be available to assist the handicapped.
Included at the Buccaneer wave pool complex are a fast food service, a sales shop, and locker rooms with comfort facilities. The multi-level decking at the wave pool provides an ideal spot for sunbathing and picnicking. (No food or drink may be brought from outside. However, excellent picnic facilities are located near the entrance to the wave pool complex.)
