On the average, small businesses get one-third of the space and missile business as prime or sub-contractors. One would expect some of the work to come their way in the South, also.
This great development of the space effort in the Southeast should be the spark that really fires the southern areas into action. It will serve to unleash the energies of the region in many areas that are not related directly to space itself and will trigger off a huge industrial expansion in the Southeast. This has already happened in the far-sighted Gulf Coast.
AREA MARKET SURVEY
The immediate market area of the Edgev.-ater Plaza Shopping Center is the five county area which includes Harrison, Hancock, Jackson, George ar.d Pearl River Counties having a total population of 250, 714 people. In this area, there are only three Lsxgc cities:	Gulfport	(35,	000	est.), Eiloxi (4-1, 053 - 1960 census), and
Faccagoula (13, 500 est.). Kere-to-fore, the area has subsisted upon agriculture, the fishing industry, some port activity, ard tourism. As the previous sections of this report have attempted to show, the areas whole economic picture is under-gcir.g a dynamic change. This is especially true cf the three c?astal counties: Hancock, Harrison ana Jackson.
