plastikos). Plastics are made from chemicals - raw materials include coal, limestone, petroleum, salt and water The United States leads the world in the production of plastics, followed by West Germany, Great Britain, Russia and Japan. The plastic industry is growing rapidly in Canada,
Mexico, and South America. Pennsylvania leads all the
states in the manufacture of raw plastics, other states
in the lead include Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina,
Ohio, Mass. and Texas. Plastic companies are divided into
three general classes: Material makers(chemical company)
Processors (shape resin into products) and fabricators and finishers (make products by cutting, drilling and assembling).
There are over 5,800 plastic making companies in the U.S. of these only 200 are material-making firms. The growth of the industry depends on a plentiful supply of coal, and petroleum. Most mateiral makers are close to coal-and petroleum sources — the related industries locate where they can most easily and cheaply serve the industries.
