I
When the Board of Police of Hancock County convened in the Town of Gainesville at 8 o'clock Monday, March 19,	1867, there
was little	to indicate	is was not just	another	routine meeting.
True,	the agenda	contained one	item a	bit out of the
ordinary. The State Legislature bad a short tine previously passed an act requiring that the seat of government be determined by vote,	and that a special election	be held	for the purpose.
The election had been	held March 18,	and it was the duty of the
Board to determine the outcome, and name a permanent Seat of Justice.
