OTHSA’s Charles Loring Brace Award for 1989 went to Jean Sexton of Tulsa, Oklahoma for her efforts in preserving the history of the placing-out by the Children’s Aid Society.
Jean began her public speaking career after she was interviewed on a television news program by Elisa Streeter in 1987.
Jean tells of her life as an Orphan Train Rider and how she was reunited with her brothers and sisters because of her caring adopted mother.
OTHSA welcomes the opportunity to give this award to Jean Sexton.
Rachel Lemoine, Moreauville, Louisiana, received the Sister Irene Award for her documentation of the New York Foundling Hospital’s Orphan Train children brought to Louisiana.
Rachael’s sharing her years of work with OTHSA prompted the Board of Director’s to reward her efforts with the Sister Irene Award for 1989.
