Reverend Johnson named monsignor
The Rev. Gregory Johnson, pastor of Our Lady of the Gulf Parish in Bay St. Louis, has been named a monsignor by Pope Paul VI.

Reverend Johnson and the Rev. Michael Glynn of St. Paul Parish in Vicksburg are the first priests to receive the honor in the diocese since 1968.
Reverend Johnson, 54, is a native of New Orleans and was ordained in 1947. He first served as assistant pastor of Nativity Parish in Biloxi.
He has served as principal of Jackson St. Joseph High School, pastor of three parishes, member of the di-ocesan liturgical commission, diocesan consultor and dean of the West Coast deanery.
He has served as pastor of Our Lady of the Gulf since July 1969.
