Among the many American Negro sculptors today ? and American Negro art has long been rewardinglv rich in sculpture ? Richmond Barthe and Sargent Johnson have kept the leading positions they established in the midtwenties. Thev were followed in the thirties and forties by Augusta Savage, Henry Bannarn, William Artis, Elizabeth Catlett, John Rhoden, Marion Perkins and many others. The lilties saw the emergence of several "fully contemporary," but seldom entirely ? nonobjective," Negro sculptors led bv Ed Wilson, Barbara Chase, Richard Hunt and Carroll Simms.
