[NBCC SPOTLIGHT]
Meershaert became the first Bishop of the Diocese of Oklahoma City in 1905. This first pastor of Wolf River humorously remarked that he hoped to change to wolves at Wolf River into lambs. On January 7, 1874, Father Theo. Meershaert wrote to Bishop Elder mentioning that a church had been built there. This is the first record of a church at Wolf River.
Going back to the church records, a perfect guide of history, we find the entries from January 6, 1875, to March 11, 1879, are signed by Father Le Due of Bay St. Louis. Between the time the place was visited by Father Oberti from Pass Christian and Father Dutto of Bay St. Louis. From 1881 to
1886,	Father Aloysius Van Waesberghe, stationed then at Jordan River, recorded the baptisms and in 1882, gives the name of the mission as Wolftown in place of Wolf River.
SECOND PASTOR - FIRST MISSION IN CUEVAS
The second resident pastor of the church was Father Alphonse Ketels who resided there from 1886 to 1890. In 1887 he bought a good size lot with a house for $250.00. In 1880, mention is made that the church is found too small for the congregation. Father Ketels was moved to Canton and later became pastor of Biloxi. Before leaving Wolftown, he built a church at Cuevas in honor St. Lucy and it was dedicated on October 12, 1890, by Bishop Heslin, being the first of many missions of this Catholic Center. It is also worthy of note that Bishop Jansens dedicated a little chapel named Our Lady of Good Counsel on November 4,
1887,	and it was also attended by Father Ketels and built by him.
